01 Career journey
AN ATYPICAL WORK HISTORY
My career journey has been somewhat atypical, with my experience divided into three distinct types: full-time employment, contract work, and business ownership. Each type has enriched my skill set, though it's a bit challenging to capture the full scope on a resume or portfolio.
As a full-time employee, I focused on a single role with clear goals and daily responsibilities, which provided a stable and predictable work environment. I was able to fully "own" the experience and evolve it based on analytics and user learnings. I intimately knew the product, the customer and the stakeholders and was the go-to for any experience related question.
In contrast, my contract work involved stepping into various projects based on immediate, and sometimes urgent, needs. Often, I didn’t have prior expertise in the area but quickly acquired the necessary skills, got my arms around and stabilized the project, and handed it over to another team member for continued work. While I rarely had the opportunity to see a project through from start to finish, each assignment presented a new challenge and learning opportunity.
As a business owner, I wore many hats. I managed daily operations, from client presentations and proposal writing to overseeing project resources, creating schedules, and managing budgets. I also took on various roles within projects as needed. This experience was fast-paced and required adaptability, focusing on client satisfaction and fostering repeat business and referrals.
In each of these work environments, I thrived because of the synergy and support of the teams I collaborated with. Despite the various challenges, stress, and long hours, the excitement and ultimate satisfaction of solving problems, delivering results and continuously learning made it all incredibly rewarding.
04 MY STORY
Rather than writing yet another paragraph about who I am, what I do, how I think, etc., I'm going to share a few photos that will tell you more than I could ever hope to articulate.
These photos are samples of things I've designed and built, group activities I've organized and facilitated and a few of my other right-brain creative outlets.
